Alberta Farm Stream
The Alberta Farm Stream is an immigration stream of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) operated by the province of Alberta. This stream is designed to target experienced farm owners and operators who wish to own and operate a farm in Alberta.
Candidates who are successfully nominated through the Alberta Farm Stream will be invited to submit an official application for Canadian permanent residence. This program requires a highly individualized application based on the type of farm a person is proposing to launch in Saskatchewan.
The stream is jointly managed by AINP and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AAF) so applicants will be required to consult with both organizations prior to submission.
Minimum Requirements
You must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be eligible to apply to this stream:
- Prove that you have farm management skills with:
- Financial documentation of existing farm business;
- Proof of education, training, and work experience;
- A proposed business plan that describes the Alberta farming business that you plan to operate; and
- Proof that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance your farming business operations in Alberta.
- Prove that you have sufficient financial resources for this venture:
- Must be able to invest a minimum of CAD $500,000 of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta; and
- Show a minimum net worth of CAD $500,000 or confirmation of access to similar funds from other sources.
- Prove that they will invest in a primary production farming business in Alberta:
- Document investment intentions in the proposed business plan; and
- The Government of Alberta prioritizes applications that show the greatest opportunity for growth based on Alberta’s agri-food targets.
- Attend an in-person interview with a Government of Alberta representative who determines your eligibility under the AINP.
Ineligibility
You are not eligible to apply under the AINP Farm Stream if you:
- Have an active nomination that has not expired and/or is eligible for extension under another AINP stream. Candidates are only eligible for one AINP Nomination Certificate;
- Have been issued a letter on a previous AINP application that stated you are not eligible to re-apply to the AINP for a specified period of time. If you apply during the specified period, it will be declined;
- Have had a removal order issued against you by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or Canada Border Services Agency. The AINP does not intervene in the federal refugee claim, appeal or removal process;
- Are a foreign national living or working in Canada with no valid temporary resident status;
- Are a live-in caregivers currently living in Canada;
- Are working and residing as a temporary foreign worker in a province other than Alberta;
- Are an international student studying in Canada, including students doing co-op work placements or internships as part of their study program;
